Today, our team headed out to visit Qube Eastern Operations in Port Hedland, where we witnessed the impressive logistics involved in loading a Mineral Resources Limited vessel with lithium concentrate using Qube’s innovative Rotabox system.
During the visit, we learned that each Rotabox holds approximately 30 tonnes of product, with around 1,266 tips required to fully load a vessel. The operation achieves a gross loading rate of 450–500 tonnes per hour, resulting in approximately 38,000 tonnes of lithium concentrate being loaded before the vessel begins its 7–10-day voyage to China.
The vessel was loaded using one of Qube’s 120-tonne mobile harbour cranes, with two permanently based at the Port Hedland Eastern Operations to support efficient and reliable vessel loading activities.
Qube plays a vital role in the Pilbara’s supply chain, providing integrated logistics solutions including the storage, handling, transport and stevedoring of bulk commodities. Their specialised Rotabox system enables the safe and efficient transfer of mineral concentrates from storage to ship, minimising product loss and reducing environmental impacts throughout the loading process.
