Meet the Speaker – Women of the Pilbara Forum 2025
Join us at the Women of the Pilbara Forum to hear from Laura Hawes,
Superintendent Community, Fortescue
We asked Laura a few questions in the lead-up to the Forum:
I’ve called Port Hedland home for more than a decade, and the Pilbara is where I’ve grown my career, raised my family and invested my time in community. Over the years I’ve had the privilege of working alongside local government, schools, clubs and volunteers, seeing first-hand how much can be achieved when people pull together. It’s long enough to know every season has its own rhythm—and that our region’s potential keeps growing.
From the people and the possibilities here. I see the resilience of families, the dedication of volunteers, and the ambition of young people in our schools and sporting clubs, and it inspires me to keep creating pathways and practical support. My work has shown me how targeted partnerships—whether for training, childcare, or community facilities—can shift the dial on liveability. That combination of grit, generosity and impact is what fuels me.
It’s an opportunity to spotlight local women who turn ideas into outcomes and to share practical lessons from community-building across our towns. I’m looking forward to connecting with leaders, entrepreneurs and volunteers, exchanging real-world strategies, and championing projects that lift opportunities for families and young people. Most of all, I’m excited to collaborate—because when Pilbara women join forces, we accelerate change for the whole region.
Save the Date 15th-16th October at the Women of the Pilbara Forum, Hedland Hotel – Port Hedland.
