Member Visit with Pilbara Ports – Part 1
Today the PHCCI team had the incredible opportunity to visit Pilbara Ports, heading out from the Jetty for a behind-the-scenes look at one of Australia’s most vital operations. Greeted by Simmo and Russell, the team donned life jackets and jumped aboard a vessel for an informative tour of the Port of Port Hedland.
Many may not realise that Port Hedland is the world’s largest bulk export port by tonnage, operating through a single entry channel stretching 40 kilometres, and managing a significant tidal swing of 7.4 metres. With 19 operational berths, the port recorded 3,381 vessel visits in FY 2023–24, with trade valued at an estimated $115.8 billion.
Pilbara Ports continues to grow, with major works underway at Lumsden Point, expanding capacity and future opportunities for the region.
