Speaker Feature – Women of the Pilbara Forum 2025
Join us to hear from Jacinta Barnett, Senior Manager Commercial, Rio Tinto , Dampier Salt.
We asked Jacinta three key questions in the lead-up to the Forum:
I first moved to the Pilbara in 2001, went back to Qld for 8 years from 2004-2012 and moved back, have been here ever since – part of the boomerang club that keeps coming back
I grew in up the country in Central Queensland and loved living in the “bush”. I sought a career in mining after watching my parents go through long hard droughts on the land. I was drawn to the Pilbara and said yes to a graduate position that was the furthest away from where I grew up as you could get in Australia. I loved the wide open expanse, the ruggedness, but then you come over the hill and see a township and people thriving in this environment. The people are resilient and make and create a wonderful tapestry we call our Pilbara community. I felt like I found a home that met my needs to be surrounded by the beautiful Australian landscape and bush, yet nestled with people that are down to earth, caring and will always have your back.
We have amazing talent right here in the Pilbara and this is a chance to showcase, connect, network and grow new things and possibilities for our region. I am a big believer in the ripple effect, I know there will be friendships formed, business ideas blossom and connections made. The Pilbara is made up of many facets and I hope this event highlights that there are many ways that women can thrive in the Pilbara and our communities.
