2024 Hedland Economic Forum

Record Turnout at 2024 Port Hedland Annual Economic Forum Drives Business Opportunities and Regional Growth
Port Hedland, 13th November 2024 – The 2024 Port Hedland Economic Forum, held on November 13th, saw a record turnout of over 250 attendees from across the region. The event, organised by the Port Hedland Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHCCI), provided a vibrant platform for small to medium businesses in the region to explore new opportunities, gain valuable insights, and connect with key industry players.
Held at the Wanangkura Stadium, the 2024 Hedland Economic Forum featured an exciting new exhibition space showcasing 25 custom designed booths, fostering networking and engagement. Key sponsors, including principal partner BHP and event partner the Town of Port Hedland, along with a range of other sponsors, supported the event, ensuring its success and broad reach.
The packed program featured over 20 high-calibre speakers who delivered a range of presentations covering a variety of topics, including project updates, development plans, procurement opportunities, and inspiring local business success stories. Attendees were given an opportunity to hear directly from industry leaders and government representatives about upcoming projects and initiatives that will have a significant impact on the region’s economic future.
In particular, the 2024 Hedland Economic Forum underscored the importance of collaboration between government, major industry players, and local businesses, emphasizing the role of small to medium enterprises (SMEs) in the continued growth and diversification of the Pilbara economy.
BHP Western Australia Iron Ore Asset President, Tim Day said: “With the largest bulk commodity port in the world, Hedland is a powerhouse of productivity and economic activity – not just for WA but also the nation.
“We have ambitions to grow our operations here, leverage new technology trials, and ensure we’re continuing to invest in our communities to make sure the people that live and work here thrive.”
The annual Hedland Economic Forum has firmly established itself as a must-attend event in the region’s business calendar, and organisers are already planning for next year’s Forum, promising even more opportunities for collaboration, growth, and community engagement.
