A milestone moment for decarbonising rail. 
Fortescue have commenced the commissioning of two new battery electric locomotives on its Pilbara rail network, marking a major Real Zero milestone for the Company’s iron ore operations.
Delivered by Progress Rail, these locomotives house the world’s largest land-mobile batteries, equivalent to around 250 electric vehicles, and will eliminate around one million litres of diesel each year. This massive battery powered locos have enough power to run your household fridge for 30 years !
The tour also included a visit to the Northern Star junction site , a solar farm battery energy storage facility , this facility is being used to charge the batteries to operate on renewable power. Fortescue is working with global partners and suppliers to deliver 800 pierces of battery – electric heavy mobile equipment. Fortescue are focused on accelerating decarbonisation on a global scale, rapidly and profitably.
