Sundowner with the Reserve Bank of Australia & Minerals Council of Australia

On Tuesday evening, the Minerals Council of Australia hosted a special sundowner at the Hedland Hotel, bringing together key representatives from the Reserve Bank of Australia and the mining industry during their visit to the Pilbara.

Guests flew in from Perth, Melbourne, and Sydney, marking the first-ever visit to Port Hedland for the RBA representatives. The evening offered a unique opportunity for local stakeholders to engage directly with national economic and industry leaders, discussing the vital role Port Hedland and the broader Pilbara region play in Australia’s economic landscape.

In attendance were Tania Constable PSM, Chief Executive Officer of the Minerals Council of Australia, along with Dr Ross Lambie, Chief Economist, and David Parker, Executive Director for Western Australia. Representing the Reserve Bank of Australia were Andrew Hauser, Deputy Governor; James Holloway, Deputy Head of Economic Analysis; Joanne Embry, Economist for Western Australia; Ellen Waterman, Senior Representative for Western Australia; and Alison Watkins AM, Non-Executive Member of the Monetary Policy Board.

This visit forms part of a broader industry tour coordinated by the Minerals Council of Australia, guiding the RBA delegation through the full production journey – from port operations in Hedland to the mine sites in Newman – showcasing the scale and significance of local industry.
