Winu Project Update: Rio Tinto Team Connects with Scott and Tina
Today the Team from Rio Tinto Winu caught up with Scott and Tina to give a project update.
The Winu Project is a copper-gold deposit located in the northern Pilbara region of Western Australia, approximately 320 kilometres east of Port Hedland.
In May 2025 Rio Tinto signed a Definitive Agreement with highly experienced copper miner Sumitomo Metal Mining Co (SMM) to establish a joint venture partnership.
The partnership, which is based on shared values around safety, respect for land-connected peoples, and minimising the carbon footprint, will provide additional resources and expertise to support the development of Winu.
Winu is moving forward with Environmental approvals and we look forward to more updates through out the year and excited to hear about upcoming procurement opportunities and community engagement.
